Artist Statement:
My artwork is based from life and photos I have taken. I am interested in depicting realistic paintings, drawings, and experimenting with texture and color. I mainly use acrylic and oil paint, but have dabbled in charcoal, chalk pastel, and graphite pencil. Recently, by responding to music and emotions, I have begun to visit abstract expressionism. I employ color and texture to create an atmosphere that the audience can relate to. Exploring both realism and abstraction has challenged my creative process by allowing me to develop as an artist and by looking through new outlets for inspiration.
My artwork is influenced greatly by my family, surroundings and emotions. My twin sister, being a big part of my life, has a great presence in my artwork, both literally and conceptually. We have always been seen as one entity; however, through artistic expression we have found an outlet to mold our own individual identities. Although we have taken different artistic paths, the act of creating has brought us closer together. Growing up with this connection and strong inspiration has allowed my art to evolve as I experiment with new mediums and styles.
As I continue the rest of my schooling here at West Virginia University as an art major studying Art Education and Painting I look forward to exploring other mediums along with trying different styles within painting. I hope to find myself as an artist and continue to find new ways to express myself.
